Latest Permian–Triassic magmatism of the Taimyr Peninsula: New evidence for a connection to the Siberian Traps large igneous province

Abstract This study presents new whole rock major and trace element, Sr-Nd isotopic, petrographic, geochronologic data for seven latest Permian (Changhsingian)–Late Triassic (Carnian) granitoid intrusions of the northwestern northeastern Taimyr Peninsula in Russian High Arctic. U-Pb zircon ages, obtained using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), sensitive high-resolution microprobe (SHRIMP), laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass (LA-ICP-MS), define crystallization age studied as ranging from ca. 253 Ma to 228 Ma, which suggests two magmatic pulses Permian–Early Middle–Late age. Ar-Ar dating biotite amphibole indicate rapid cooling studied, but ages several samples were reset by heating hydrothermal activity induced pulse. Petrographic distinguish groups granites: syenite–monzonites granites–granodiorites. isotopic data, same intrusions, show a variation initial (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios between 0.70377 0.70607, εNd(t) values range –6.9 1.2. We propose that geochemical compositions Late Permian–Triassic granites record existence magma mush zone was generated Siberian Traps large igneous province (LIP) magmatism.
